We just rolled out one of our biggest content updates yet — unique descriptions for over 17,000 barangays across 33 provinces in the Philippines.
What Changed
Every barangay page in these provinces now has a description that gives you real context about where the barangay is, what the municipality is known for, and what makes the area unique. These aren't generic copy-paste descriptions — each one is tailored based on the barangay's municipality, population rank, and local features.
For example, a barangay in Lucban, Quezon will mention the Pahiyas Festival and Mount Banahaw. A barangay in Taal, Batangas will reference the heritage town and the Basilica of St. Martin de Tours. A poblacion barangay will be described differently from a rural sitio.
33 Provinces Covered
Here are the regions and provinces that now have full barangay descriptions:
- Ilocos Region (Region I): Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan
- Cagayan Valley (Region II): Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino
- Cordillera (CAR): Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Mountain Province
- Central Luzon (Region III): Aurora, Bataan, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac, Zambales
- CALABARZON (Region IV-A): Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal
- Bicol Region (Region V): Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate, Sorsogon
By the Numbers
- 33 out of 82 provinces now have descriptions
- 17,215 barangays with unique descriptions
- 40,100 total barangays on the site
- That's 43% coverage and growing
How We Did It
We researched every municipality in each province — geography, terrain, economy, cultural features, languages spoken, and notable landmarks. Then we used that research to generate descriptions that reflect each barangay's actual context within its municipality.
The result is that when you land on a barangay page, you immediately get a sense of place — not just a name and a list of officials.
What's Next
We're working through the remaining regions. The goal is full coverage of all 82 provinces and 40,100+ barangays. Visayas and Mindanao are coming soon.
