Help Us Map Every Barangay in the Philippines

Try searching for your barangay online. Go ahead — Google it.

Chances are you'll find almost nothing. Maybe a Wikipedia stub with outdated population data. Maybe a random blog post from 2014. Maybe nothing at all.

Now think about that. Your barangay is the most basic unit of government in the Philippines. It's where you get your clearance, where disputes are settled, where disaster response begins. It touches every Filipino's life. And yet — it barely exists online.

That's the problem brgy.to is trying to solve.

The Information Gap is Real

There are 42,000+ barangays in the Philippines. Each one has a captain, kagawads, a secretary, a treasurer. Each one has office hours, a phone number (maybe), processes for documents like clearances and certificates.

But where is all this information?

Most of it lives in one place: the heads of the people who already know. If you're a local resident, you probably know your captain's name and when the hall is open. But if you're new to the area, an OFW abroad, a job seeker needing clearance, or a student doing research — you're out of luck.

There's no national database of barangay contact information. There's no website where you can look up who your barangay officials are. The DILG has some data, but it's buried in PDFs or spreadsheets that haven't been updated in years.

Meanwhile, every restaurant, every barbershop, every sari-sari store can have a Google Business listing. But the 42,000 units of government closest to the people? Nothing.

What We're Building

brgy.to is a free, open directory of every barangay in the Philippines. Right now, we have all 42,000+ barangays indexed across every province. For many of them, we've already added:

  • Descriptions of the barangay and its municipality — the geography, economy, culture, and what makes each place unique
  • Population data from the 2020 Census
  • Links to document guides for common barangay transactions
  • A Q&A section where anyone can ask and answer questions

For barangays that have been claimed by their officials, there's even more — contact numbers, office hours, news posts, officials lists, photo galleries, and community directories.

But here's the thing: we can only do so much from the outside.

This Is Where You Come In

We've spent months researching provinces, municipalities, and barangays. We've written thousands of descriptions based on census data, geographic research, and local knowledge we could find online.

But the most valuable information doesn't come from research — it comes from the people who actually live there.

You know things about your barangay that no website, no census, and no Wikipedia article can tell us:

  • The actual phone number of your barangay hall (not the one from 2015 that nobody answers anymore)
  • The real office hours — including the lunch break nobody tells you about
  • Who the current captain and kagawads are after the last election
  • What documents you actually need to get a clearance or certificate
  • The stories — when your barangay was founded, what it's named after, what makes it special

This is the information that matters. And only you can provide it.

How to Help

If You're a Resident

  1. Find your barangay on brgy.to — search by name or browse by province
  2. Check the information — is anything wrong or missing?
  3. Use the Q&A section to share what you know — office hours, contact numbers, document requirements, anything useful
  4. Share brgy.to with people in your community — the more people contribute, the more useful it becomes

If You're a Barangay Official

  1. Claim your barangay page — click "Claim this Barangay" on your page and verify your identity
  2. Update your contact info — phone, email, office hours, Facebook page
  3. Add your officials — captain, kagawads, SK chair, secretary, treasurer
  4. Post announcements — events, schedules, important notices
  5. Answer questions from residents in the Q&A section

Claiming your page is free and takes minutes. Once verified, you have full control to keep your community informed.

If You're From the Academe or Local Government

We welcome partnerships with universities, LGUs, DILG field offices, or anyone working on local governance data. If you have accurate, up-to-date information about barangays in your area, we'd love to hear from you.

Why Sharing Information Matters

Every piece of information you share on brgy.to helps someone you may never meet:

  • The OFW in Saudi Arabia who needs to know what documents their family should prepare for a clearance
  • The fresh graduate in Manila applying for a job that requires a barangay clearance from their home province
  • The senior citizen who just wants to know if the barangay hall is open on Saturday
  • The disaster responder looking for contact numbers during a typhoon
  • The researcher studying local governance patterns across the archipelago

When this information is publicly available, it saves time, reduces frustration, and makes government more accessible to everyone.

The Bigger Picture

The Philippines has one of the most decentralized government structures in Asia. The barangay system is unique — it's democratic, it's local, and it directly serves the people.

But decentralization only works when information flows freely. If residents don't know who their officials are, what services are available, or how to reach the barangay hall, the whole system breaks down.

brgy.to isn't a government website. It's a community resource. We believe that when Filipinos come together to share what they know, the result is something more comprehensive and more useful than any government database.

42,000 barangays. 110 million Filipinos. If even a small fraction of us contribute, we can build something that doesn't exist anywhere else in the world — a complete, living directory of the smallest and most important level of government.
