About the CDE online validation exam

The Comprehensive Driver's Education (CDE) is the LTO's refresher for renewing drivers. You finish a short online module on the LTMS portal, then pass a 25-item multiple-choice validation exam β€” 80%, or 20 of 25. It's free, you can retake it right away, and the certificate is saved to your LTMS record for your renewal.

Who needs it

  • Drivers renewing for the first time since the CDE started on October 28, 2021 β€” for example, a license last renewed in 2021 or earlier, or an expired license.
  • Exempt: your student permit was issued on or after August 3, 2020, or you already renewed on or after October 28, 2021. The CDE is done once, not every renewal.
  • Not sure? Log in to LTMS β€” it tells you whether a CDE certificate is still required before you can book a renewal.

How to take it on LTMS

  1. 1Create or log in to your LTMS account at portal.lto.gov.ph and link your existing license.
  2. 2Open the CDE module from your dashboard, go through the refresher, then start the Online Validation Exam.
  3. 3Answer the 25 questions. Score 80% or higher to pass β€” if you fall short, you can take it again immediately.
  4. 4Your CDE certificate is generated in your LTMS record. Then continue the renewal: medical certificate, appointment, payment, and biometrics.

Exam details and rules change. Confirm on the LTMS portal or with your LTO office.
